Christian Anger Management

Christians and angry responsesChristian anger management means using God’s word as a tool for finding answers to managing anger.  Many tools are available and can include prayer and even the frequently requested Christian anger management audio books.

Usually angry feelings are a natural normal reaction to situations which may cause disappointment, resentment, hurt, frustration and other negative feelings. Few of us are immune to occasional angry outbursts. But for many people, even Christians, anger is more than just a natural normal reaction. Anger can be a constant companion which becomes a defining factor in a personality. It can disrupt relationships with loved ones, friends and co-workers. Anger can terrify others.

In the Bible, James wrote, “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires” (James 1:19-20).

Effective Christian based techniques for managing your rage and disappointment combine the word of God with good solid anger temper research. The ultimate goal is to provide the best resolution and control in dealing with anger. Similar to mainstream forms of dealing with disappointment, the bible-based version for adults may involve counseling as well as christian online anger management courses or anger related videos. Tools for controlling fears and outbursts may include such simple aids as ten tips for anger management (or more tips).

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control (Proverbs 29:11).

How do you know if anger is out of control?

If angry reactions are out of proportion to the circumstance, if a person becomes more out of control than a situation warrants, that person may need to know more. Disproportionate anger will make a resolution more difficult if not impossible.

A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel (Proverbs 15:18).

Bouts of rage, anger controlling outbursts or flying off the handle with the least provocation are red flags of an anger temper problem. Usually, those who are feeling strongly think their outburst is a justifiable necessary response to other people and events around them. They refuse to acknowledge that they have a problem with anger, instead blaming others or blaming an intolerable circumstance for causing their hurtful rage and tirade.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it leads only to evil (Psalm 37:8).

Explore your anger to gain control. But before gaining control, before controlling fears and tirades, one must understand the anger process.
Usually an exaggerated response is based on exaggeration of the triggering event.

Controlling outbursts is one goal. Many tools provide tips for increasing awareness about angry feelings. Additional tools may include anger courses and anger management techniques for parents. You may be encouraged to keep a log to identify when you get angry, what are you angry about. What sets you off? Do you see trends?

One of the best ways to regain control of anger is to remove ones self from the situation and go somewhere private. Breathe slowly, calm ones self, then engage in a convenient physical activity such as jogging, swimming or lifting weights.

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control (Proverbs 25:28).

If basic Christian Bible-based tips are not effective in controlling fears and anger, it iis time to seek help from a professional. If you seem out of control, if you are hurting relationships, or have escalated into violent outbursts, seek one of the many available tools to deal with excessive anger.
